Spencer Bloomfield, from Church Gresley, is undertaking a gruelling 500km bike ride across the island of Madagascar, off the east coast of Africa, to raise money for the charity TransAid.
Spencer has previously taken part in the Tough Guy Challenge, a 12- mile assault course which saw him brave fire, ice and electric shocks, but will face some new hazards when he undertakes his first long-distance bike ride in July.
Spencer said: “I love getting fit and I wanted to do something to push myself to the limit — this is a massive challenge.
“I was looking around for something to do and thought about a trek up Kilimanjaro but then I saw this and it just appealed to me.
“It will be the height of summer when I do it and the temperatures can go up to about 40C. I’ve also been told that pirates are rife in that area, not to mention diseases and animals trying to kill you.”
The adventure will allow Spencer to see first-hand the work done by TransAid, which aims to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods across Africa and the developing world.
He is asking individuals and companies to help him reach his target of raising £5,000, and already has support from Chesterfield-based industrial cleaning equipment firm Morclean, Burton letting agent Acquire Properties and BMR Fitness, run by Mark Robey, from Winshill.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Mr Bloomfield can do so online at www.justgiving.com/spencer-bloomfield or by texting SPEN86 followed by a pound sign and the amount donated (to donate £10 text SPEN86 £10) to 70070.
Potential business sponsors, who will have their logo emblazoned on Mr Bloomfield’s cycling jersey, can get in touch with him by emailing spencer.mb@ me.com or by calling             07850 755733      .
